The first mailing on an upcoming ESA-TV transmission was sent eight years ago, on 16 September 1999. In eight years, the mailing list has grown from some 60 to over 3000 names and more than 2000 transmissions covered highlights like the missions by half a dozen of ESA astronauts to the ISS, the arrivals of the ESA probes at Mars, Venus and Titan, and the launches of ESA flagship missions like Envisat and Rosetta.
The time has come to put the responsibility for ESA TV into younger hands. For a transition period, Ingrid van de Vyver from ESA Brussels, with support by Chris Courtenay-Taylor from World Wide Pictures, will be looking after the content of the ESA TV Website and the mailings ahead of new transmissions. As in the past, e-mail and mobile phone coordinates will figure on the bottom of every mailing.
Today, I am looking back with gratitude on an exciting time during which contacts with broadcast journalists and users of ESA TV in general have often turned into friendship.
